Compliance Guide

SGS and REACH Testing: A Fabric Buyer Checklist Before Ordering

Compliance questions should be handled before price confirmation, not after goods are ready to ship. Different buyers may need different documents depending on destination market, end use, age group, skin contact or retailer requirements. For foil and stretch fabrics, a clear testing checklist helps the supplier quote correctly and prevents delays later.

01

Start with the market and application

A costume fabric for adult stagewear, dancewear or performance outfits may require different checks depending on the destination market, skin contact and buyer standard. Tell the factory how the material will be used so SGS, REACH-related testing or buyer-specific reports can be discussed at quotation stage.

02

Match the test request to the exact material

Reports are most useful when they match the material you are buying. Color, coating, foil finish, adhesive layer and backing can all affect the final requirement. If you change color or backing during development, confirm whether the previous report still applies or whether new testing is needed.

03

Decide the timing before placing the order

If you need documents for customer approval, ask before sampling. If the report must reflect mass production, schedule it after final sample approval. Either way, build testing time into your sourcing plan so document preparation does not delay shipment.

04

What to send with your inquiry

Send your destination country, product category, buyer or retailer standard if available, target material, color, quantity and expected shipment date. If you already have a requested test item list, attach it with the RFQ so the factory can quote the material and testing support together.
